Overview:

Interns will work on the Dixie National Forest for the 2019 summer field season. The forest has a diverse and dynamic cultural resource program. Interns will work outdoors across southern Utah from sagebrush deserts to high elevation meadows and everything in between. Interns will gain exposure to federal cultural resource management practices and the Forest Service as well as the variety of artifacts and site types located in southern Utah. A background in archaeology/anthropology is not required but an eagerness to learn and enthusiasm for cultural resources is preferred.

Housing is not provided.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assisting forest archaeologists with archaeological field surveys, and site recording and monitoring
  • Data entry of field findings
  • Participate in forest public outreach events and conservation education

Qualifications:

Willingness to work outdoors Good communication skills and ability to work in a team setting in remote locations Capable of hiking across uneven terrain in a variety of weather conditions carrying and field equipments and personal supplies Upon completion of training, ability to collect and enter basic archaeological site and artifact data into forest data collection systems (e.g. GPS, GIS, photos, etc)
